In response to George Kramer’s Post regarding the CIP plan, Mayor Akins posts:

“George Kramer It’s not my doing. I am wildly against it and asked clarifying questions to make it clear so no obfuscation could occur. Shaun Moran and Gina DuQuenne are fighting hard on this. But so far have not been met by anyone else on council. Saying one thing and doing another feels like what we called in the simpler day: “lying.” It’s a street fight every council meeting. But it’s better than before when it was just me taking a public whipping every other week. At least everyone gets to speak now. And I will fight hard for everyone’s right to be heard because the voters elected them.”

Mayor Akins indicates that Councilors Moran and DuQuenne are “fighting hard against this but have not been met by anyone else on council.” Neither Mayor Akins nor Councilors Moran and DuQuenne ever put forward a proposal for how to pay for the necessary infrastructure investments for our built systems outside of raising rates.

It is inappropriate to indicate that there would be “obfuscation” by other elected officials or that those elected officials are lying because they are working to maintain infrastructure - a critical municipal operation. In addition, the meetings Mayor Akins attended as a councilor were collegial. There was no “public whipping” every other week, nor was anyone not allowed to speak.
